Honoapiilani Closed News Today

Effective Immediately, the road to Lahaina, via Honoapiʻilani Highway is closed in both directions. Police had reports that many people were parking on the Lahaina Bypass and walking into the areas makai of the bypass, which is locked down due to hazardous conditions and biohazards. This zone has been declared as a site for authorized personnel area only. Police say those caught within this zone will be escorted out and may be arrested.

A head-on crash early Wednesday morning on a Maui highway claimed the life of three people — a 22-year-old from Kīhei, an 81-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman from Lahaina.

Update: 9:18 a.m., Aug. 2, 2023. The Honoapiʻilani Highway in Lahaina is now completely OPEN as of 9:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023. The road was closed for nearly six hours while police conducted an investigation into a crash overnight near Wahikuli Wayside Park. *Check back for details, which will be updated once they become available.

(Update: 12:51 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023). The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier today near Waikō Road due to a traffic accident investigation.

Update: 12:23 a.m., April 4, 2023: The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now open in both directions following a traffic fatality involving a motor vehicle accident with a pedestrian. The incident was reported at around 8 p.m. on the highway in the area of Mile 13 in Olowalu. The highway was closed for more than four hours while police conducted a traffic fatality investigation.

Update: (3:11 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023) The Honoapiʻilani Highway in the area of Hōkiokio to Front Street is now OPEN in both directions.

(10:13 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023) The Honopiʻilani Highway is now OPEN at Māʻalaea Road. The road was closed earlier due to a motor vehicle accident.
