the united states. and i said, well, you can read this a.p. fact check. no, i don t trust the a.p. you could read the washington journal, it s owned by rupert murdoch, it s considered conservative. no, no, i can t trust main stream media. yet they trust websites put up by chinese religious cults. how do you fight against that? it s a lot of different things, joe. it s not just one single or handful of things. we ve been in messes like this before, maybe not quite as bad but with 19th century american journalism which was a cesspool of lies and hyper partisanship. and what s worked in the past is you build resilience into the system, help educate people about what s true and not true, you build in institutional guidelines and guardrails like what facebook is trying to do now with its oversight board and what google has done by trying
all of a sudden they re public enemy nub number one. hyper partisanship will cause republicans to shift. this is where you now just slowly abandon this is like what a cult leader does. they get you to slowly abandon everything you will believe in. then your only identity is in the cult leader. it started out, honestly, when he was running and started attacking the bush family and the iraq war. and it s like and i was like, oh, republicans will never go along with this. they just went right along with it. there s nothing that used to be sacred to republicans now that they will not turn on if donald trump turns on it. good to have you both this morning. thank you. turning now to the youngest member of the house, self-proclaimed history buff who seems to have a loose grasp of historical facts. thomas jefferson said facts

definitely needed. the fbi s investigating crimes that took place. any congressal hearings are beset by hyper partisanship in the congress and clearly i think the republicans are concerned that a commission would expose the cancer that has taken root in its party. also concerned once that is exposed it will alienate the swing voters they hope help them to regain the house and the senate in 2022. an independent commission can bring together experts from the government, from the congress just as the 9/11 commission did to ensure that there s going to be an objective and fair review of what happened to understand the causes and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence in the future. congressman, what do you make of the door that liz cheney has opened by saying on national
