Vaccine Safety for Kids 6 Months and Up
Last week, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that in a Phase 3 trial in adolescents 12 to 15 years of age, “the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine demonstrated 100% efficacy and robust antibody responses, exceeding those recorded earlier in vaccinated participants aged 16 to 25 years old, and was well tolerated.”
“We share the urgency to expand the authorization of our vaccine to use in younger populations and are encouraged by the clinical trial data from adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15,” said Albert Bourla, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pfizer. “We plan to submit these data to FDA as a proposed amendment to our Emergency Use Authorization in the coming weeks and to other regulators around the world, with the hope of starting to vaccinate this age group before the start of the next school year.”

The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little brighter for Wethersfield students and staff.
A district transition team has been working on a plan, to be submitted to the school board at its March meeting, identifying the barriers to returning to full in-person learning, ways to overcome those barriers, and when the transition from blended in-person and remote learning could safely take place. The team is made up of 12 staff members representing each of the buildings, special education, food service, board of education and administrators.
Discussing the transition team s progress thus far at its February meeting, the school board decided that if a plan can be developed to overcome the barriers and ensure the safety of students and staff, it would look at transitioning the district back to daily in-person attendance for students starting the Monday after spring break, March 29.

Alton students fill the Redbird Nest section of bleachers at a AHS boys basketball game last year at Alton High in Godfrey. If Region 4 moves to Phase 4 mitigation by the weekend, Alton will host Collinsville in three games Saturday, but with only 50 people spectators in the gym. Currently, the region is in Tier 2.Telegraph file photo
GODFREY Chris Kusnerick is one to take things in their proper order. The Alton High School athletic director usually doesn’t put the cart before the horse. But this week is different for him, as well as for ADs throughout Illinois Department of Pubic Health’s Region 4, including the entire Southwestern Conference.
