Imbrium Basin News Today

Moon - Formation, Craters, Orbit: With the rise of scientific inquiry in the Renaissance, investigators attempted to fit theories on the origin of the Moon to the available information, and the question of the Moon’s formation became a part of the attempt to explain the observed properties of the solar system (see Solar system: Origin of the solar system). At first the approach was largely founded on a mathematical examination of the dynamics of the Earth-Moon system. Rigorous analysis of care...

Moon craters used to measure lunar time have been reassessed, indicating some features are much older than we thought, possibly by up to 200 million years.

Researchers fhave reconciled conflicting methods of dating the Moon's surface, revealing that parts of its crust are about 200 million years older than previously thought. The revised dating, achieved by comparing Apollo samples with crater counts and spectroscopy data from various Moon missions, ha

Researchers from Norway and France have found a way of coordinating and recalibrating two conflicting systems of dating the surface of the Moon.

If upheld, the findings could finally resolve two conflicting dating systems used to determine the age of the Moon's surface

The researchers point to a giant indentation called the Imbrium Basin, thought to be one of the largest craters in our solar system, as an example of their findings.
