“With due respect, the Bureau of Corrections maintains that the temporary suspension of delivery of items inside its facilities is in line with the provisions of the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) Guidelines,” BuCor Chief Superintendent Victor Erick L. Pascua said in his reply to a letter sent online by Kapatid spokesperson Fides Lim.
Kapatid, a support and advocacy group, has underscored the need to deliver food and medicine to inmates, particularly the elderly and the medically vulnerable.
It said the PDLs (persons derived of liberty) “need augmented nutritional, medical and hygiene provisions to give them a better chance of surviving the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic in congested and unsanitary jails.”

The trend is disturbing and our scientific researchers see it as a portent of horrific times ahead.
For three days since last Friday, the three highest single-day tallies so far this year of COVID cases nationwide were reported – 4,578 new cases on Friday, 5,000 on Saturday, and 4,899 on Sunday.
The 5,000 new infections last March 13 is the largest single-day number recorded in around seven months, or since August 26, 2020, when the daily recorded number of new cases hit 5,277. And the numbers are projected to keep rising, even way beyond the highest daily tally so far of 6,958 cases reported on August 10, 2020.
OCTA Research fellow Professor Guido David was my guest last Sunday in my Teleradyo program Sagot Ko ‘Yan, and he said that the daily COVID infections could reach 5,000 to 6,000 in Metro Manila alone by the end of this month, based on a 1.95 reproduction rate.
QUEZON CITY, Mar. 8 The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) today provided updates on the implementation of its Government Internship Program (GIP) for the year.
Taking into great consideration the safety and protection of the youth from the continuing threat of COVID-19, the Department announced that it has decided to postpone the GIP for 2021.
The DSWD explained that the decision to postpone the internship program was part of the DSWD’s continued adherence to the Inter-Agency Task Force Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of Community Quarantine, particularly on setting of age restrictions for the public allowed to go out of their homes. This is also in compliance with the Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 18, series of 2020 on Alternative Work Arrangements and Support Mechanisms, specifically on reduced workforce in government offices to ensure that the appropriate social distancing measures are established.
