OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Washington State legislature is discussing a bill to introduce Holocaust education into Washington schools. Senate Bill 5851 would add lessons to the state curriculum.

It was a reunion more than 75 years in the making, and Washingtonians got to listen to their stories and memories of the Holocaust at an event on Sunday evening.

Lawmakers in Washington state are considering Senate Bill 5851, which would strengthen Holocaust education in public schools. The bill builds upon a previous one from 2019, directing the creation of a curriculum to teach about the Holocaust. The goal is to address a significant knowledge gap among millennials and Gen Z, with 63% unaware that 6 million Jews were killed.

Genocide survivors are encouraging the curriculum to include more than just the Holocaust.
