but i appreciate you coming on america s newsroom this morning. congressman brad winthrop. john: families of some of the victims relieved yesterday after democratic mega donor ed black was ordered to remain behind bars. he was arrested on drug distribution charges after two fatal overdoses in his home. jonathan hunt is with us. reporter: it took less than 10 minutes for the judge to decide that ed beck should be held in custody. those charges started his arrest in the wake of a meth overdose of a 37-year-old man. prior to that overdose, which the victim survived, two men had died from similar method overdoses inside buck s apartment. he was investigated in those cases but never charged. one of those men, jamel moore,
ago another friend also overdosed inside buck s home. the death of 26-year-old gemmel moore, a black male escort was ruled accidental despite journal entries by moore saying, quote: i have become addicted to drugs and h the worst one at that and buck is the one to thank. he gave me my first injection of crystal meth. it was very painful, but, after all the troubles, i became addicted. and in a final entry he wrote, quote: if it didn t hurt so bad i would kill myself but i will let edid buck do it for now. still investigatorslf could find no proof that edward buck provided gemmel moore with methamphetamines. now the man who donated more than half a million dollars to democratic causes and candidates and well known lbgtq political circle figure is watching as protests erupt at his home. watch.
