Intercape Bus Attacks News Today

The bus company said it would only honour the invite if the Department of Transport and South African Police Service are present.

This comes after damning allegations by Intercape that the taxi industry was behind the attacks on its buses. The long-distance bus operator accused the taxi industry of running the transport sector with impunity.

The bus service company confirmed its intentions of suing the minister of police on Wednesday for not taking action on the numerous attacks on its buses since 2020.

The bus service said despite several orders by the court for Minister Bheki Cele to act on the intimidation and violence against it, nothing has been done.

The high court in Makhanda this week dismissed Mbalulas application for leave to appeal an order compelling him to implement an action plan to deal with long-distance bus attacks.

A court order was handed down earlier this week, forcing Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula to implement an action plan to urgently deal with the ongoing attacks on long distance buses.

Over the weekend, a bus along Jakes Gerwel Drive came under gunfire and the driver was shot and wounded.

The SAPS on Tuesday briefed MPs on its interventions and measures that have been put in place to curb the ongoing attacks, mostly targeting Intercape, in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces.

This emerged at a meeting of Parliaments Tourism Committee, which heard from police on interventions to clamp down on these attacks on Tuesday.
