Voters in Ohio will decide whether ballot measures should require 60% approval in order to pass—which could determine whether protections for abortion rights pass later this year.

A surprisingly high turnout for the Aug. 8 special election in Lorain County and statewide shows that people will vote if they believe an issue is of concern to them.

The Lorain County Board of Elections has received more than 16,000 early votes for the special election this month in comparison to about 4,000 early votes in 2022.
