Martell received a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years after the decision was handed down in a Saskatoon courtroom last week.

A judge in Saskatoon convicted Ivan Martell of first-degree murder in the 2020 death of Allison Moosehunter.

Upon the reading of the decision, people erupted from their seats, clapping and yelling, some even swearing at Ivan Martell as he was quickly ushered out of the room by officers.

Allison Moosehunter, 28, was found dead in her apartment on March 4, 2020, in the 500 block of Geary Crescent. She had been strangled and had suffered fatal stab wounds.

For the first time at trial, the Crown argued Martell is guilty of first-degree murder because he killed Ally Moosehunter during a sexual assault.

The man accused of killing 28-year-old Allison Moosehunter took the stand in his own defence at his first-degree murder trial.

Ally Moosehunter was found stabbed and strangled in her Hampton Village home on March 4, 2020. Martell is charged with first-degree murder.

The first-degree murder trial at Saskatoon Court of Kings Bench has been on hold since the Crown closed its case Thursday.

Dr. Melanie Green said DNA from two blood samples collected by police investigators in Moosehunters bathroom were a match to Martells DNA.
