Stripers to 40 inches moved into Buzzards Bay with whispers of bluefish to the east, squid fishing is picking up steam, and keeper tautog are chewing well.

The tautog bite picks up steam in Buzzards Bay, schoolie stripers move in and out of the Canal, and big largemouth bass continue to gorge on herring in the ponds.

Anglers around Cape catch 6-pound-plus largemouth bass, schoolies stripers arrive in the Vineyard surf, and tautog fishing slowly improves in and around Buzzards Bay.

Bass fishing continues to heat up through shifting conditions, short tog are caught in Buzzards Bay, and some ponds get their second and third rounds of stocked trout.

Bass and pickerel fishing is tough in the shallow ponds, trout take live and artificial baits on bottom rigs, and sea herring fishermen catch pollock to 32 inches in the Canal.

Brown and rainbow trout are active in the kettle ponds, and largemouth and smallmouth bass feed heavily after snowfall. Plus, a great pollock bite up north.

Tautog are chewing in 60 to 70-foot depths and freshwater fishing for trout and bass picks up steam as striper activity dwindles.

Herring, squid, bunker and spearing have hungry stripers being selective as the cinder worm spawn approaches, and tautog fishing is good in the Canal and Buzzards Bay.

Stripers to 30 inches hit the Canal, squid flood the waters around Hyannis and there is good tautog fishing to be had in Buzzards Bay.v

Herring flooded south Cape this week as shops stocked up on green crabs; and in the ponds, largemouth bass fishing improved as the trout-stocking craze waned.
