The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the city of Jackson have agreed to a fine related to two weeks' without trash pickup in 2023.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said a company has been selected to possibly take over garbage collection in the city of Jackson.

There was a heated exchange during Tuesday’s Jackson City Council meeting over the mayor’s lack of action to push a new request for proposals.

"It never should have gotten to this point," Jackson resident says.

"It’s not cheap, either," Jackson business owner says.

Frustrations are running high as Jackson remains without anyone to pick up the growing piles of trash.
