WINDHOEK, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Namibia, home to the only and largest population of free-roaming black rhinos in the world, is aggressively implementing dehorning measures to save the endangered species from being illegally slaughtered for its horns.

The number of rhinos being poached in Namibia, home to the world’s second-biggest population of the animals, is surging.

Rhino poaching in Namibia is picking up, and officials suspect international syndicates are shifting their focus from South Africa.

Animal conservationists have warned that rhino slaughtering for the illegal trade of their horns could soar again in Namibia as the coronavirus pandemic has forced many anti-poaching organizations to back down due to the lack of funds.
