Three Honolulu Police Department officers awaiting trial for allegedly causing a high-speed chase and crash and covering it up in Makaha in September 2021 were fired by the department.

The officers' behavior fell outside the scope of their employment, the City and County of Honolulu said in a motion to dismiss a civil lawsuit.

The four Honolulu police officers face felony criminal trial in December.

The officers, who have yet to stand trial, can now officially lodge a grievance over any internal decisions.

The four Honolulu Police Department officers who were charged in connection with a 2021 crash in Makaha that injured six people have withdrawn their request for the city to provide legal representation.

The department's Professional Standards Office has completed its investigation into the incident.

Their trial is scheduled for May 22.

They all face felonies for allegedly pursuing a sedan without their lights and sirens on and then failing to render aid after the horrific September 2021 crash.

The charges come 18 months after the alleged pursuit and accident.
