The cause of the fire is unknown, the fire department said.

The Jefferson City Fire Department extinguished a structure fire Saturday night in the 400 block of East Capitol Avenue.

The garden was about 120 feet long and 60 feet wide; it was just another summer in the 1980s. We had everything from stalks of corn, potatoes, beets, tomatoes, green beans and broccoli. The lettuce and carrots had already been picked through or eaten. And Dad was working on his large vat of pickled cucumbers. Mom worked diligently throughout the summer to can and freeze as many vegetables as she could to eat throughout the winter. There was no fancy instapot pressure cooker like we have today.
