The Lincoln man who punched and killed a 55-year-old man while walking downtown has been sentenced.

A Lincoln man charged in a fatal assault last year has taken a plea deal.

Angel Rodriguez Alvis, 23, was found guilty of manslaughter, terroristic threats and abuse of a vulnerable adult.

Angel Rodriguez Alvis pleaded guilty to manslaughter for punching a 55-year-old stranger on a downtown street corner last August, angry because he was talking to two women with him.

There were at least seven homicides in Lincoln in 2023, which was a decrease from 11 in 2022 and in line with the citys yearly average over the past decade.
