NAME THAT CHURCH: A church with close links to Broughton Hall

LAST week’s building was correctly identified by Janet Evans and by John Fletcher of Sutton-in-Craven, who described it as the ‘magnificent’ Bancroft Mill at Barnoldswick. Currently closed to visitors because of the coronavirus pandemic, the mill is in normal times a working museum to the industrial age. Today in history: Jury finds Missaukee farmer guilty of possessing liquor

Jan. 29, 1931 It took the jury only about 20 minutes to consider the case against James Nutter before announcing a verdict of guilty, about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday. The prosecution testimony was to the effect that the two Nutters, James and son Ralph, were stopped on M-42 east of Lake City the morning of Dec. 19 and the car searched by Deputies Smith and Truman, who then allowed them to go into Manton. Jan. 28, 1931 The case of the people against James Nutter, Missaukee County farmer, was begun this morning about 11 a.m. in Circuit Court. Nutter is charged with transporting and having in possession liquor for sale, a pint of whiskey.
