To mulch, or not to mulch — that seems to be the question.

Normally at this time of year, people plan drives to take a look at the changing fall colors. But this year, Arkansans are wondering if there will be any fall color.

Finally, we have a break in the heat and humidity. July and September were both too hot and dry.

Gardeners across the country are being encouraged to plant milkweed for the monarch butterflies, but monarchs arent the only butterflies, or pollinators, in Arkansas gardens.

The backbone for a landscape is the trees and shrubs that form it. When choosing shrubs for a landscape think seasonality. We want to have something blooming in every season — not just a show of color from azaleas in the spring.

My backyard is a graveyard, littered with the sad reminders of failed edible perennials. There's a forlorn square along the western fence that was an attempt at a strawberry bed. A few feet away lies a bit of dead space where I failed to cultivate a rhubarb patch.
