“I’m so proud of our guys,” Coeur d'Alene senior linebacker Shea Robertson said. “To make it to the state championship was awesome. I would have been happy just making it to the state playoffs after last year, but to go all the way to the state finals is a dream come true. The only thing that would have made the season better is if we had won it.”

“That was quite a game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. “There’s a reason I’m gray and bald, or one (reason), anyway. Eagle is a good football team, and we got just enough stops to survive and move on.”

“We let four teams score over 40 points (last year), so everybody made a collective decision this year that we’re not going to let that happen,” Coeur d’Alene senior middle linebacker Shea Robertson said.

Coeur d’Alene (8-2) will play at Eagle (10-0) next week in a semifinal game. Eagle rallied in the fourth quarter to beat defending state champion Rigby 17-14 on Friday night at home.

It’s the sixth time in seven seasons that Coeur d’Alene has either won or shared the league title, and 11th time in 13 years.

Coeur d’Alene (6-2, 2-0 5A IEL) can wrap up the league title, the top seed to state from the North and a first-round bye in the playoffs with a victory over visiting Lewiston (4-4, 1-1) next Friday.

Next Friday, Coeur d'Alene hosts Post Falls and Lake City hosts Lewiston.

“When you play a team like Rigby, it’s not always going to be pretty,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. “Responding to what they do, that was the key. We’ve got a ton to get better at, because it doesn’t get any easier next week.”
