After weeks of wrangling, Wayne Township approved a merger between its fire department and the Indianapolis Fire Department.

One fire department wants to merge with another, and one step was taken closer to that in Indianapolis. Wayne Township trustees voted unanimously (5-0) to merge with the Indianapolis Fire Department by as early as next year.

The board approved resolutions authorizing Wayne Township Trustee Jeb Bardon to negotiate details of the merger on behalf of the township

“While this wasn’t an easy decision, it’s the right one for our township, taxpayers and our employees," the trustee said in a statement.
