IIT Bombay has released guidelines to halt discrimination based on caste, including when inquiring about a fellow students birth or admission category, lest it lead to bias. The school encourages students to connect on common interests such as department, sports, music, school, college, village, town or hobbies, and warns of severe consequences for any violations of rules including disallowing exchanging hateful or casteist messages or jokes, harassment or bullying.

The data shared by the APPSC show that of the 19 IITs that have SC/ST Cells, only 12 have web pages. At IIT Guwahati, while the SC/ST Cell has no web page, it is the only IIT where the Cell has not only conducted events, but has also been allocated funds and a separate room to function.
