For our daughters eleventh birthday, my wife and I took the Kid With One F to get her hair colored pink. It was something she asked about for years after watching the way her mom switches up hair colors regularly. Since the birthday we’d planned for her was consumed by the plague of 2020, it felt like a nice consolation prize. Naturally, we took pictures of her so we could show the internet how old we all are getting (I swear this kid was starting kindergarten last week). A few people, howeve...

Have you ever sat there watching the iconic ending of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and thought to yourself, “Man, I wish this moment also had some waifu sizzle?” Anime statue company Kozuguru has your back as long as you have $130 and can wait until February. Behold the sexy Leatherface statue! Based on the famous “chainsaw dance” scene that ends director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic, this is an officially licensed piece of merchandise according to the website. Made to 1/7 scale from ...

Dedicated reader Brian Combs sent us a photo of the site, showing that the interior of the monolith was a simple signpost that had been ritualistically driven through a slice of cheese pizza. The collection of random offerings – such as a Whataburger keychain and Topo Chico bottle caps – were apparently spirited away by the architects of the wondrous object. Presumably they were accepted as appropriate items of worship, and the city shall soon reap the blessing of the monolith’s masters. ...

Don’t throw out your live Christmas trees, wreaths, and garlands once the Christmas holiday is over. Brazoria County needs those to help fight the increasingly strong storms that have been pounding the Texas coast as climate change makes hurricane season longer and more brutal. The county has been running its annual Dunes Day since 1978 according to parks lead interpreter Mike Mullenweg. Through January 10, live trees (no plastic) with all their decorations removed can be dropped off at the...

Since November, mysterious metallic monoliths have been appearing all over the world. Houston has one of its own. Located on 11th Street just east of Beverly, the monolith is identical to the one that was first discovered in San Juan County, Utah on November 18 and many of the dozens that have been found across the globe. It is made of shiny grey metal and is presumably hollow. The shape is triangular, and it stands nine feet tall. Ours also seems to be a tad bit shoddier than some of the other...

Greg Travis, the Council Member from District G, Spends a lot of his time online being a complete right-wing prat and spreading conspiracy theories about wealthy Jews (or at least George Soros) stealing the election. His latest bout of verbal diarrhea is a comment about how major female political figures from the left have either slept their way to the top or only got there through affirmative action. On December 21, he shared a popular meme on his personal Facebook page comparing First Lady Me...

Most Christmas albums are a waste of digital recording space used to massacre classics (looking at you Bon Jovi) or awkwardly cash in by gruesomely sewing holiday trappings on otherwise standard band fare (I see you Erasure). Hearts of Animals has done what few other bands have managed to accomplish. They actually wrote a regular album that just happens to be about Christmas, and it is exactly the disaffected scream of despair to top of 2020. Recorded remotely by the individual members over Zoo...

The recent COVID stimulus bill is expected to deliver $600 to Americans. I can just about pay my rent with that because I am married with a child and that adds up to $1,800 for the household. If you’re not, the government doesn’t seem to care about you as much. I don’t think anyone begrudges me getting extra cash for my kid. Obviously, this quarantine has been hard on them, too. What I’m saving in tuition at her local jiu jitsu dojo I’m spending on her therapy because kids are literal...

For some people, the Christmas stocking portion of the holiday is merely an afterthought, something you throw a few candy bars in and call a day. I believe that the stocking is a chance to fully express how much you care for your loved ones in a variety of small ways, and therefore should be approached with deadly (but jolly) seriousness. If you’ve ever seen someone who has never had a customized holiday stocking haul crafted for them react for the first time, you’re missing something magic...

Major Spoiler Ahead for The Mandalorian Season 2 Before we get into the meat of this article, let’s give a paragraph so as to not spoil the season finale of The Mandalorian in online preview texts. Did you know that Alan Dean Foster and other authors who have contributed to Star Wars over the decades are no longer receiving royalties because of Disney? The case is super complicated, but really does boil down to one of the largest companies in the world not being willing to part with a few t...
