The Flagstaff Planning and Zoning Commission discussed an amendment to the Flagstaff Regional Plan on Wednesday that would factor in the city’s Carbon Neutrality Plan. The Carbon Neutrality Plan consists of several initiatives such as conversion towards electric vehicles and alternative modes of transportation to reduce carbon emissions. Among issues discussed were how the plan would play into Flagstaff’s housing issues. City Climate Specialist Jenny Niemann urged commissioners to allow infill of housing in the existing city, so potential residents are closer to amenities to keep emissions low through less reliance on transportation. The commission voted unanimously to include the Carbon Neutrality Plan as part of the Flagstaff Regional Plan. It is scheduled to go to the City Council for approval on May 18th.
