A proposed Kansas bill seeking to ban transgender-related medical procedures for minors failed after two Republicans switched their votes.

A proposed ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors in Kansas died April 29 when two Republicans prevented a veto override.

The votes stopped Kansas from passing what would have been one of the harshest gender-affirming care bans in the country.

In bipartisan votes, the Kansas Legislature overrode Gov. Laura Kelly's veto of a bill enacting tougher punishments for killing a police dog or horse.
