A 50-year-old Red Wing woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder related to leaving her new born infant boy in the Lake Pepin as part of a plea deal.

Despite remorse and pleas for probation, the judge imposed the harshest sentence under law.

The former teacher was given a stayed jail sentence as part of the agreement, according to his attorney.

On Wednesday morning, May 25, 2022, Judge Douglas C. Bayley ordered that conditional bail for 50-year-old Jennifer Lynn Matter, be lowered from $750,000 to $150,000.

A Goodhue County Judge reduced bail from $750K to $150K for Jennifer Matter, who authorities say is linked to two babies found dead in the Mississippi River.
