As another longtime South Bend business is listed for sale, is the areas culture shifting?

One of the last local examples of pre-Civil War architecture, its made the states top 10 list of endangered historic buildings.

Owners decided to close their restaurant after June 5 because its building was listed for sale but also because of uncertainties in the industry.

SOUTH BEND — The long-established East Bank Emporium Restaurant in South Bend is for sale. According to a listing through Cressy Commercial Real Estate, the sale is for the business only and also includes all furniture, fixtures and equipment. Listing agent John Mester said the sale listing has been live for a few weeks and there has been interest from potential buyers. It might not be much to look at now, but progress is being made on Trader Joes upcoming South Bend location.  According to Kenya Friend-Daniel, public relations director for the California-based grocer, the new Trader Joes near Eddy Street Commons has a tentative opening date of this fall. Friend-Daniel couldnt provide a specific date, saying that its dependent upon construction progress and could be subject to change. Steel framing for the new store has been recently put up at 1140 E.
