KPA has defended its move to lock out an unnamed bidder from the tender process. The finalists of the multi-billion tender include rival Japanese contractors.

The 11-member tender committee is split into two factions over the firms to award the multibillion-shilling construction deal.

Last year, Dubai Port World World sought concession licences to run and operate various infrastructure components in Mombasa, Lamu and Kisumu ports.

The compensation clears the way for the project expected to make Mombasa a regional logistics and manufacturing hub.
