A Yukon judge has ordered the ex-owner of a shuttered Whitehorse butcher shop that sold THC-tainted jerky to unsuspecting customers in 2020 to pay more than $17,000.

The judge noted, “It is only out of luck that more serious harm did not result out of this offence”

A former Whitehorse butcher was found guilty after being charged in 2021 for selling THC-tainted jerky without a license. Ultimately, 33 people were identified in the Yukon, Alberta and Nova Scotia having experienced mild to severe "symptoms of cannabis intoxication" after eating the butcher's jerky, including seven children and two infants.
