Sophia the Robot gave a speech during D'Youville University's graduation ceremony to the disapproval of some.

DYouville has invited Sophia, a humanoid automaton produced by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics, to address its graduates at the May 11 ceremony at LECOM Harborcenter.

DYouville University announced its spring 2024 commencement speaker will be an artificial intelligence robot, capping a yearlong campaign generating awareness and education around AI.

According to D'Youville University, this will cap its year-long campaign of generating awareness and education around AI.

The humanoid robot, which is named Sophia, will be witnessed by more than 2,000 students, staff and family at the Harborcenter on May 11.

Today, DYouville University began its 2023 fall semester. In doing so, the school welcomed more than 300 new students (noting prepandemic enrollment numbers) to campus through a refreshed five-day orientation model.
