When Carl Grant awoke from surgery in February 2020 and couldn’t move, he apologized to family gathered around his bed. In the fog of dementia, he thought he’d been paralyzed in the Vietnam War. But the Marine veteran had just suffered a spinal cord injury after a police officer slammed him to the floor.
