Demand is rising to help growing homeless population in St. Johns County

City officials are developing a strategic plan to deal with homelessness, and five meetings are scheduled to get the public's opinions.

The countys annual homelessness survey shows a decrease in those who identify as homeless; but the percentage of chronically homeless increased.

People who need refuge from the cold temperatures on Saturday evening can go to Grace United Methodist Church at 8 Carrera St. in St. Augustine.

St. Johns County will see freezing temperatures over the weekend. At least two churches will open cold night shelters in St. Augustine.
