The Boston Task Force on Reparations called on "White churches" to step up and pay the Black community back for racial inequities that root back to the trans-Atlantic slave trade, according to reports.

An open letter signed by 16 clergy and faith leaders lists options for white churches to consider for reparations, including cash payments, the creation of affordable housing, and help with backing new “financial and economic institutions in Black Boston.”

The Tremont Street church is embarking on an ambitious, public reinterpretation of its history, one that will acknowledge its links to slavery and the slave trade by honoring more than 200 enslaved people who have been discovered to be connected to the congregation.

Congregation has approved a memorial project likely to cost $2 million and take 2 years to complete.
