There was no shortage of local state champions during the third and final day of the Class 1A-5A track and field championships Saturday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.

A trio of local athletes earned state titles during Friday's second day of the state track and field championships at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood. Others either came close to topping the podium or positioned themselves to contend for titles during an action-packed final day Saturday.

With three qualifiers in the Class 4A 800-meter run, the Thompson Valley boys were in prime position to medal in the 4x800 relay Thursday at the CHSAA State Track and Field Championships.

Numerous local athletes won state titles during Thursday's first day of the state track and field championships, while others positioned themselves for potential titles in the coming days at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.

Even before the season began, Berthoud head track coach Blaine Voth knew his girls team had a chance to be a state title contender.

Local Class 3A cross country teams had a strong showing at state meet Saturday at the Norris Penrose Events Center. Led by the Berthoud boys' second-place finish, local 3A teams also had three runners finish in the top 10 of either the boys' or girls' races.

With regional meets a week and half away, several local cross country teams and runners came home with some hardware over the weekend at their respective league meets.
