It wasnt all bad!

Joye B. Moore first started her business by selling the sweet potato pie recipe designed by her great-great-great grandmother, the last person in the family to have been born into slavery.

Joye Bells Pie was launched in 2019 and the small business has been run on love and the energy of five family members ever since.

For decades, Joye B. Moore made a couple of dozen sweet potato pies at Thanksgiving and Christmas to give as gifts to family and friends.

While sweet potato pie will grace many Thanksgiving tables tomorrow, one Richmond woman is baking them up by the hundreds, turning a family recipe into a growing business.
