This would be the second consecutive day when mercury has dipped to single digits for Pune city.

An active El Nino, the warm ocean current over the Pacific, is the cause of the warmer than usual winter in most parts of the country.

Pune weather update: A further temperature dip of 2-3 degrees Celsius from Monday is expected as cold winds from north India will blow over Maharashtra.

This dip in temperature comes after an unusually hot October, which was mostly because of clear skies and less moisture due to the early withdrawal of the monsoon.

The withdrawal of monsoon had seen the reemergence of October heat this year in Pune.

Lack of rainfall from mid-May to mid-June impacted forage production of perennial grass hay fields.
