Ten years ago this September, antiques dealer and Prairie Grove resident Amy Daniels had an idea: a fan of large-scale outdoor flea markets like Canton and Round Top in Texas, she was tired of having to drive hundreds of miles to find vintage goodies. Why, she thought, couldnt the Northwest Arkansas area support such an event?

Just junk. To neighbors down the road, to fellow farmers in need of a clean-up, even to friends and family, artist Angie Gastel’s chosen medium is just junk.

On June 2 and 3, a huge field on the outskirts of Prairie Grove will hold the largest selection of open-air flea market booths in the Northwest Arkansas area. From polished antiques to funky vintage treasures to rusty farm finds, shoppers should be rewarded with just about anything theyre looking for at the Junk Ranch, which boasts 150 vendors and more than 200 booths.

The Prairie Grove City Council heard that plans are moving ahead on adding a restroom facility and a playground structure to Muddy Fork Park during its Sept. 19 meeting.
