50-year-old Ian Benjamin Winther of Ocean View made his initial court appearance Thursday morning in Kona District Court. He was ordered to appear May 30 for a preliminary hearing.

50-year-old Ian Benjamin Winther of Ocean View is being detained at the Kealakehe Police Station pending his initial court appearance Thursday in Kona District Court. His bail was set at $143,000.

The 59-year-old man riding the motorcycle was ejected more than 250 feet, sustaining severe head and internal injuries. He remains in critical condition at an O‘ahu hospital.

Areas of extreme drought were eliminated thanks to the rainfall brought by the storm but most of the island continues to suffer from moderate drought, with severe drought still affecting areas in the interior and along a portion of the northwest coastline.
