Loan Rangers: Smyth on target; National League South curtailed Share article:
IT WAS a positive week for Paul Smyth at Accrington Stanley – who picked up four points in League One.
Smyth scored the winning goal as Stanley saw off fellow promotion chasers Doncaster Rovers 1-0 last Wednesday, playing for the full 90 minutes, before featuring for the first 45 minutes of Accrington’s 1-1 home draw with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
Also in League One, it was a mixed bag for Mide Shodipo’s Oxford United – beaten by Tranmere Rovers in their EFL Trophy semi-final in midweek before bouncing back to draw 0-0 at Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Loan Rangers: Mide’s Oxford remain in promotion hunt Share article:
MIDE Shodipo featured in both of Oxford United’s fixtures last week as they recorded two more wins in their latest quest for promotion from League One.
The winger – who has already hit 10 goals for Karl Robinson’s men this term – played 59 minutes as the U’s saw off Bristol Rovers 2-0 at the Memorial Stadium last Tuesday, prior to his 68th-minute introduction as Oxford enjoyed a 2-1 success over Wigan Athletic on home soil on Saturday.
Across the city, Aaron Drewe’s Oxford City hit four goals twice last week on their way to separate comprehensive successes over Hungerford Town (4-0, Tuesday) and Chelmsford City (4-1, Saturday). Drewe played the full 90 minutes in both games.
Loan Rangers: Three debuts for young R s Share article:
CONOR Masterson made his debut for Swindon Town on Saturday as they earned a point away at Charlton Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
The young Irishman played all 90 minutes and helped them race into a two-goal, first-half lead at The Valley. Charlton – who did not have Paul Smyth in their matchday squad – fought back after the break to earn a share of the spoils, however.
Masterson could make his home debut for Town when they host Plymouth Argyle at the County Ground on Tuesday night.
Also in League One, Mide Shodipo started and played 88 minutes of Oxford United’s 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The win was Oxford’s sixth victory in a row and they could make that seven when they head to Rochdale on Tuesday.
