Congress leader Vishwajeet Kadam said he was elected to work for the progress of Sangli district and Maharashtra and won’t switch to the BJP without taking voters into confidence.

MLA Ravindra Dhangekar had defeated the BJP candidate in the Kasba Peth Assembly bypoll and is a probable Congress candidate for the Pune Lok Sabha seat.

The Congress has faced defeat in Pune seat consecutively in 2014 and 2019.

Raut said talks with the Congress on seat-sharing has to start from ‘zero’ as the latter has “not won any seat” in the state.

The BJP had won the Pune Lok Sabha seat both in 2014 and 2019 by a big margin. But the seat got vacated after the demise of sitting MP Girish Bapat in March this year.

The new executive comes after the appointment of new city unit chief Dheeraj Ghate two months ago.

However, BJP stated that Patil has no role in it and alleged that Dhanagekar was trying to take credit for the works proposed by the late BJP leader Mukta Tilak

Dheeraj Ghate has a large mass base in Navi Peth and Duttawadi and is among the most prominent Hindutva leaders in Pune.
