According to the data of the Estonian Food Bank, 310,100 people lived in relative poverty and 18,000 people in absolute poverty in Estonia last year, while the Food Bank has distributed nearly 3,800 tons of food to those in need this year.

Europe is facing sunflower oil shortages. Similarly to British supermarkets, Lidl likewise imposed purchase limits on cooking oil in its Estonian stores, but has since lifted them. The shortage and price increase on cooking oil, however, has put several Estonian food industry businesses in a bind.

Estonia's largest supermarkets say that food prices have risen by an average of 10 percent over the past four months, with some categories, such as coffee, seeing considerably higher levels of inflation than that.
