Reporter the seismology lab, earthquake Early Warning system sounded the alert this morning but because the epicenter was in berkeley the warning time was limited. The farther seismic waves travel, the longer the warning. The earthquake was right under berkeley. People in oakland would get one or two seconds of warning. In San Francisco about three seconds. Reporter seismologists here say even a second or two of warning is much better than none. Even with just a second or two every warning, everybody gets under a sturdy table we estimate we can half the numbers of injuries in an earthquake so thats a big reduction in the impact.
