Kerman Blasts News Today

Iranian authorities have arrested 35 people in relation to the January 3 attacks in the southeastern city of Kerman, the Intelligence Ministry said on Thursday, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The situation in the Middle East may soon intensify with more attacks expected after blasts in Lebanon and Iran, former Pentagon senior security policy analyst Michael Maloof told Sputnik.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and EU foreign policy chief Josef Borrell, in a telephone conversation on Wednesday, condemned the terrorist attacks in the Iranian city of Kerman and discussed the situation in the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.

The solemn occasion near the cemetery, where the late Qassem Soleimani rests, turned into a scene of horror as Iranian state television reported a sequence of explosions. The first explosion was followed by a second, intensifying the tragedy and causing widespread panic among attendees.

General Soleimani held a paramount position in Iran, considered the second-most influential figure after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As the chief commander of the elite Quds Force, the overseas branch of Irans Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Soleimani orchestrated covert operations abroad and played a crucial role in Irans mission to expel US forces from the Middle East.
