The DA looks set to retain control of the Western Cape even though it could be with a slightly reduced majority.

The Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape is confident that it will hold onto power in the province, as preliminary results released by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) as at 6. 50am on Friday morning showed the blue party leading the polls.

Leaders of various political parties criss-crossed the country on Tuesday in their last-minute push to encourage voters to cast their special votes and also vote in numbers on Wednesday.

The DA is at risk of losing its majority in Western Cape as support for new parties is expected to surge in the province and others look to win over voters on the issue of Palestine. The DA, however, remains confident.

In 2019, the ANC mustered only 28 percent of the vote in the province it lost control over in 2009.
