In a surprising twist of events, opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesman Brown James Mpinganjira has asked former President of the Republic and DPP leader Peter Mutharika to “move on” after losing the 2020 presidential election re-run and support the current MCP government under President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for socio-economic development to take place in the country.
Mpinganjira, previously a fierce critic of the current regime, said this in an exclusive interview on Times Television hosted by Wonder Msiska on Saturday evening, June 26, 2021.

Rumours have it that Mpinganjira, who has been to almost all political parties as a senior member and formed his own National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the early 2000, has held secret talks with President Chakwera on the possibility of his joining the ruling party. He has denied the rumours.

Malawi government has released about MK400m Covid-19 funds for former Vice President Khumbo Kachali who is battling for his life in South Africa for almost 2 months now.
Kachali and his wife were both diagnosed with COVID-19 and that forced Chakwera to order COVID-19 funds through his Minister of Finance to flew both of them to RSA for prime treatment while poor Malawians who have no access to such VVIP treatment are languishing in hospitals which have no electricity and other basic medicines.
Reports indicate the former Vice President is in intensive care at an undisclosed hospital in RSA.

Bishop Martin Mtumbuka of the influential Catholic Church has appealed to President Lazarus Chakwera to be decisive in his administration to root out corruption in the country.

Mtumbuka made the appeal on Saturday at Civo Stadium in his homily during a requiem mass for the late Archbishop Tarcizio Ziyaye of Lilongwe Archdiocese.
Ziyaye died of cancer in Namibia at the age of 71. Church authorities disclosed on Saturday.
Mtumbuka said President Chakwera should avoid politics of appeasement and protecting wrong doers.
“The lesson from the life of Archbishop Ziyaye to you Mr. President is to have decisive leadership which does not protect wrong-doers because they come from same region or party with you,” said Mtumbuka.
