SPRINGFIELD — The Jamestown Lady Eagles have gone to where no other team in school history has gone. A state championship game. Jamestown knocked off the Marion C. Early Lady Panthers for a 3-1 victory in Friday afternoon’s Class 1 state semifinal game, then the Lady Eagles lost 9-0 to the La Plata Lady Bulldogs in the state title game later that night at Killian Softball Complex.

SPRINGFIELD — It was a pitchers’ duel for the first six innings between the Helias Lady Crusaders and the Washington Blue Jays. Something had to happen offensively, whether it was getting the big hit or choosing to bunt. Washington opted to go small ball, and it won the Blue Jays a state title.

SPRINGFIELD — The Fatima Lady Comets came back from a nine-run deficit to win last year’s state championship. So when they faced a two-run deficit against the St. Francis Borgia Lady Knights, the Lady Comets acted like they had been there before and handled it like a walk in the park. Fatima only trailed for a few minutes Friday, scoring 12 unanswered runs and cruising to a 12-2 victory in five innings to claim its second straight Class 3 state title at Killian Softball Complex.

The Helias softball rematch tour continues. The Lady Crusaders avenged last year’s loss in the state title game, upending the defending state champion Kearney Lady Bulldogs for a 3-1 victory Thursday afternoon in the Class 4 state semifinals at Killian Softball Complex. “This was fun, that’s all I can say,” Helias coach Kelly Fick said.

The Helias softball team is going back to the Class 4 Final Four for a second straight season, so there will be plenty of familiarity for the Lady Crusaders during their visit to Springfield. But the familiarity doesn’t end there.

The Fatima Lady Comets would like to remind everyone no lead is safe until the final out is made. That lesson earned themselves a softball state championship Saturday afternoon. Trailing by nine runs at the end of two innings against the Chillicothe Lady Hornets, the Lady Comets scored 10 unanswered runs, and after losing a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, they had two more runs cross the plate in the eighth inning. There wasn’t much offense in the first three innings for the Fatima Lady Comets. By the end of the game, there was plenty of offense to make up for those early innings. The Lady Comets punctuated their first Final Four appearance in seven years with a seven-run seventh inning Friday afternoon, as they cruised to a 13-0 victory against Westminster Christian in the Class 3 state semifinals at Killian Softball Complex.

There was plenty of offense to go around in Friday’s Class 4 softball state championship game at Killian Softball Complex. Kearney had a bit more offense than Helias, and provided plenty of power to go with it. The Lady Bulldogs hit four home runs, and two of them were hit by Elysia Hand, who drove in eight runs. Kearney captured its first state title since 2005 with a 14-9 victory against the Lady Crusaders.
