Most of the programs at the Jerusalem Cinematheque are free of charge.

As senior executive producer for 35 years of the PBS science series, “NOVA,” Paula Apsell discovered remarkable stories of the wonders of technology, medicine and engineering.

Apsell stressed that one of the primary motives for the film is to combat ignorance of what happened in the Holocaust.

This year, following the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust on October 7, which led to the outbreak of war, Tel Aviv Cinematheque is showing movies throughout the day to mark the day.

A number of films at the Jerusalem Jewish Film Week attempt to illuminate antisemitism throughout history and may help people better understand its current incarnation. 

The Concerto of Cinema season will open with a screening of Days of Pick, a celebration of the music and life of iconic Israeli musician Svika Pick, directed by Shai Lahav and Ron Omer.

The documentary will premiere at the 35th annual Boston Jewish Film Festival.

“It was just kind of gobsmacking,” a Lone Wolf Media producer said.

The chain of events that ignited Hindenburg’s hydrogen remains one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history. Now, more than 80 years later, new footage has surfaced: an amateur 8mm film that shows the airship’s final seconds from a fresh angle and in unrivaled clarity.

The story is told in “A Solemn Promise,” a documentary that will air next week on Maine Public Broadcasting Network
