Maui Bicycling League members and supporters are encouraged to volunteer for a bike giveaway for wildfire displaced residents, set for Saturday at Krank Cycles on Kupuohi St. in Lahaina.

A newly opened bicycle shop in Lahaina is giving away over 100 bicycles on a first-come, first-served basis to Maui residents who have been displaced by wildfires. Two events will be held to distribute the bicycles, on Saturday, April 20 and Saturday, April 27 at Krank Cycles’ Lahaina location.

Krank Cycles will open a new shop next month in Lahaina, according to an announcement.

Most of the bikes from this year’s event are going to families displaced by the Aug. 8 wildfires on Maui.

Imua Family Services announced its fifth annual Pedal Imua — a 60-mile Gran Fondo cycling event around West Maui — will take place on Dec. 2.

About 225 people showed up to a Krank Cycles event, and in a little more than two hours, all 400 donated bikes were assembled for children and adults affected by the Maui fires.

Maui-based Krank Cycles received a donation of 400 new bicycles and is calling on the community to come together on Sept. 23 and help assemble these bikes to be distributed among Maui wildfire survivors.

The bike shops owned by Grant Miller are sponsoring the Bikes For Lāhainā bike collection drive and the Aug. 20 Ride For Lāhainā in Kona.

LAHAINA, Hawaii (BRAIN) — West Maui Cycles owner Jamie Boote awoke the morning of Aug. 9 to find the power out and winds whipping in his neighborhood. He and his wife, Dawn, went to the shop to secure loose objects before heading home through a tangle of downed power lines. That would be the last time the Bootes saw their bike shop.
