(CNN) — A former soldier who lost both his legs in an explosion in Afghanistan has made history by conquering Everest.

A veteran who was nearly killed in Afghanistan serving in the British Army, became the first double above-the-knee amputee to climb Everest.

Magar, 43, lost his legs in 2010 when he accidentally triggered an improvised explosive device during a patrol in Afghanistan
