Press Sports Editor sports@presspublications.com The Woodmore girls basketball team finds itself in a great spot, sitting in first place in the Northern Buckeye Conference with a 7-1 record and a 5-0 mark in the league.

Press Sports Editor sports@presspublications.com Oddly enough, Woodmore girls basketball team’s first game of the season may have been its most important.

Woodmore girls basketball improved to 13-2 overall with 52-36 win at Eastwood (10-5, 7-4) Tuesday. That puts the Wildcats one game behind Elmwood in the Northern Buckeye Conference race.

        Eastwood 5-foot-10 junior guard Jamie Schmeltz came up just a few games short of catching her schools’ all-time career scoring leader, the late Aaron Lawniczak.

After the Woodmore girls basketball team defeated Elmwood, 47-38, in Jerry City last week it was a slow bus ride back to Elmore. However, it was a fun bus ride — no one was complaining.
