Jacob Bridgeman birdied two of the final three holes to finish with a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday to lead Clemson to a fifth-place finish out of 14 teams at the Watersound Invitational at the par 72 Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla.The event was a preview of the ACC Championship, which will be played at the same course, April 22-25. The Watersound Invitational featured 12 ACC teams and two from the SEC. Nationally, it featured five top 20 teams and 10 of the top 37 according to the Golfstat.com rankings.Georgia Tech won the tournament with an 849 score, five shots ahead of Alabama. Notre Dame, ranked 15th in the nation, finished third at 858 and Virginia Tech was fourth at 862. The Tigers were fifth at 864, one shot ahead of fourth-ranked North Carolina, and three shots ahead of sixth-ranked Arkansas. Jacob Bridgeman made the 100th round of his Clemson career special with a four-under-par 68 to lead Clemson to a 280 team round and a three-place improvement in the standings at the Watersound Invitational at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City. The Tigers improved from eighth-place to fifth and stand just two shots out of third and nine shots out of first entering Tuesday’s final round on the par 72 course that measures 7,202 yards. Georgia Tech has the team lead at 14-under-par 562, six shots better than Virginia Tech. Alabama is third at four-under-par 572, while fourth-ranked North Carolina is fourth at 573. Clemson is tied with Notre Dame for fifth place at 574, and just one shot ahead of seventh-place NC State. Clemson shot four-over-par as a team on the back nine, the team’s first nine of the day, then played the front nine in 12-under-par to move from 10th place to fifth place over the day. CLEMSON, S.C. Just four days after returning from the first tournament of the Spring in The Bahamas, the Clemson men’s golf team returns to the course Sunday in Panama City, Fla. The Tigers will compete in the Watersound Invitational Feb. 20-22.Clemson opened its 2020-21 season at this tournament in January of 2021 after COVID-19 prohibited ACC schools from competing in the fall of 2020. But, this year’s event will be at a different course in the same area. Shark’s Tooth Golf Club, a par 72 that measures 7,202 yards will serve as host this year.Fourteen teams will be in the field, 12 from the ACC and two SEC teams, Alabama and Arkansas.
